This year, the construction company Skanska finalized a new office building called Five in Smíchov, Prague and we were commissioned to equip the central lobby and reception area with our furniture.

It is a space all the visitors pass through and often they sit there to wait or have a chat. It was therefore of the utmost importance that the furniture filling the space could satisfy the demands placed on the best contemporary design but also that it reflects the values and philosophy of the investor and enhances the unique architecture of the building.

Project details

The designer of the project, architecture studio Qarta architektura from Karlín, has made the most of the location of the building and of the original tram depot which used to stand there and which they respectfully included in their plan; the walls of the depot have been preserved and are visible in the facade. The style of the lobby itself is inspired by a railway station waiting room. Benches and chairs from the Limpido series function as the perfect embodiment of this idea but they also contribute to the exceptional quality of the architecture and design of the lobby. The Limpido series is characteristic for its industrial look. It is made entirely from steel and as such is practically indestructible, yet it looks almost ephemeral and light. It perfectly complements the industrial ambience of the lobby where exposed concrete and “unfinished” surfaces, grille structures and exposed structural elements all create a bold architectural style. Prominent colours and its rounded structure make Limpido a powerful feature of this ambitious space. While the Limpido series was already included in the project of the lobby, Radium stools were hand-picked by the architect and the investor directly in our showroom in Prague. An unforeseen but fortunate decision which confirms that different series of our furniture can be successfully combined. Our solid wood Sena tables in a different part of the lobby were custom made and heightened so they could be combined with the bar stools of choice.
